Communications and Navigation Radio #2

N4907J has two communications transceivers and two primary VHF navigation receivers.  (There is also a handheld battery powered backup Nav/Com installed as a third backup).  This is the second unit (the first is to the left and slightly higher than this unit).

This unit provides an additional communications capability.  It can be used to contact Air traffic control, weather stations, or ground stations (for parking, fuel, information, etc.)  The left half is the communications transceiver and the right half is the navigation receiver.  Navigation data received by this unit is displayed on the second (lower) VOR display just to the left of center of the panel.

The audio panel is used to select which communications transceiver is active.  It is possible to monitor two frequencies at once if desired.  Normally, aviation headsets are used as the microphone and audio out devices and small buttons on the control yokes are used as "press to talk" buttons.
