Loran
The Loran receiver works much like a GPS but receives navigation signals from ground stations instead of satellites. This unit can guide the airplane in a direct line from any place to any place in the world. It has a large database of all US airports and navigational fixes and so can easily be programmed to follow whatever route the pilot wants. While Loran units such as this are not certified for use as primary navigation while on instruments, they can be used as primary navigation in visual conditions and as a backup when operating on an instrument flight plan. This Loran can track two different points at once and so can be used to perform complex navigation tasks.
