Fuel Selector The fuel selector allows the pilot to select which fuel tank is used to feed the engine. The selector has three settings left, right, and off. N4907J has two 25 gallon fuel tanks, one in the left wing and one in the right wing. Normally, one tank is used for the first hour and a half or so, the other tank is used until almost empty, and the remainder of the first is then used to complete the flight. Since the tanks hold almost enough for 5 hours, most flights don't require extensive fuel management. Generally on shorter flights, tanks are switched about halfway into the flight so that the airplane doesn't become "wing heavy". At 6 pounds per gallon, full tanks weigh 300 pounds. |
